The Auckland Safe Zone is a place of safety for people who require advice, social support and minor medical assistance if they need help or have over indulged in alcohol/drugs.
Auckland Council, Accident Compensation Corporation, Red Frogs NZ (youth volunteers) and St John have set up a Safe Zone in the central city of Auckland on selected weekends over summer. The Safe Zone is also being supported by the Health Promotion Agency, Heart of the City and Waterfront Auckland.
Red Frog volunteers and St John ambulance officers will be available to assist people who are out late at night who require a place of safety, advice or medical assistance. A Global Security guard will be on site to provide additional safety reassurance.
Police mobile and beat patrols will be able to refer or deliver at risk vulnerable persons (intoxicated by drink or drug) to the Safe Zone for attention, freeing up police time and resources.
The Safe Zone will be based from a command vehicle that will be located on Queens Wharf Auckland Central.
