What happens to the security system when the power is cut off?
The panel will automatically switch to back-up battery, which will maintain the system for a period of up to 2-3 days (subject to system maintenance and battery age). The system will still operate as normal during this time. The panel will send a signal to the Monitoring Centre to alert us also, which in turn we will contact the client, or an emergency contact, to investigate.
Will you see wires in my house after the installation?
Most homes with adequate ceiling/floor spaces, and/or suitably-placed cupboards will be able to have the security cables run so they will not be exposed inside the house. In those places where this is not possible, the Security Advisor or installing technician will consult with you, the best possible solution. This may involve the use of capping or wireless battery-operated equipment.
Can I arm just certain areas of the house at night-time?
Yes, quite easily, by using the "Stay-Arm" function, pre-programmed into your alarm panel, or by bypassing the required zones manually via your keypad. For example, you may wish to arm just the garage at night-time, or everything except the hallway.
What happens if I come home and accidentally set my alarm off?
We will receive a signal into the Monitoring Centre that there has been an alarm activation at your home. In the first instance, we will phone your home. Provided, someone answers the phone and gives us the correct password, nothing else happens. There is no additional charge incurred if this happens. If no-one answers the phone, or someone answers the phone and cannot give us the correct password, we will follow your instructions (ie. phone you, your emergency contact, or despatch a guard to check your home is secure).
Who will respond to my alarm if it goes off, and no-one is home?
If we receive no reply at your home, we will follow your pre-determined response schedule. In the circumstance that we are unable to raise you or any of your emergency contacts, we will despatch a guard to check your home. Global Security contracts to specialist independent guard companies. If your property is found to be insecure (for example broken window or damaged locks), the guard will remain on-site to secure your property until you arrive, or the appropriate tradespeople arrive (if you are away or uncontactable). Call-outs to your home or business by a qualified security guard will cost on average around $60-70.
I have an unmonitored alarm installed - can Global Security monitor it?
Yes we can. Most modern alarm systems have built-in diallers or communicators, enabling them to report signals to the Monitoring Centre. If your control panel has the green Telepermit tick on it, this would indicate that it has a dialler in it. Alternatively, we can install a stand-alone dialler onto your existing system.
Will my pets still be able to have free-run of my home, whilst the alarm is set?
Yes, we can install pet-friendly detectors, which have advanced technology, ignoring cats and small dogs, whilst still being sensitive enough to detect humans.
What can your monitoring service provide that my neighbour can't?
Neighbours are an essential part of neighbourhood security, however, it is impossible to guarantee that they will be around 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. There is also a safety issue to consider when asking your neighbour to check out your home in the middle of the night. In the event of a fire, you need immediate professional response to the first indication of smoke - more often than not neighbours are not aware of any problem until the hear the sound of smashing glass from the heat inside the house - too late!
